This year’s Austin Pride Parade is on Saturday, Sept 7th! Wear your orange LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR t-shirt and join other local RUMS (Reconciling United Methodists) for the largest event of Austin PRIDE Week, the PRIDE Parade! A free celebration for the entire community, the parade brings more than 70,000 spectators to the streets of downtown Austin.
This year, participants will proudly parade down Congress Avenue and 4th Street with floats and contingents celebrating Austin PRIDE 2013’s “LOVE UNITES” theme. There is a pre-Pride Parade taco bar dinner, catered by El Mercado at First UMC’s Family Life Center, 1300 Lavaca Street, at 5 P.M. If you RSVP’d for dinner, we encourage you to park in the First UMC parking lot for easy access to dinner and the parade start. If you can’t make dinner, you can join us as we line up on San Jacinto Blvd. between 12th and 13th Streets between 7 and 8 P.M. Just look for the eighty orange t-shirts worn by the proud UUMC contingent!
If you haven’t picked up your pre-purchased t-shirt, they will be available at the FUMC dinner and at the parade line up. We do not have any extra t-shirts at this time but we invite you wear your orange or tangerine shirt of choice. Bring a water bottle and a hat for late-afternoon sun protection and feel free to bring along any homemade banners.
