Austin Child Guidance Center

unnamed (2)Phyllis Richards is a member of the UUMC congregation; she helped start the Headstart Program on the national level, and has been influential in improving outcomes for children for decades and served on the Austin Child Guidance Center’s Board of Directors. Austin Child Guidance Center (ACGC) created an award in her honor. The 3rd Annual Phyllis Richards Austin Icon for Children Award will be announced soon, and the winner will be presented the award on September 26th during the Center’s annual Austin Originals Benefit Concert. The proceeds of the benefit concert will go to ACGC and allow them to continue their mission of providing quality mental health care services, regardless of the family’s ability to pay. Here are other ways you could get involved with Austin Child Guidance Center:

Play Leader – This is a semester long commitment on a fixed schedule for at least one 2 hour shift (i.e., Mondays 1-3). You would be playing with the kids while they are waiting for their therapist or while their parents are in session. You must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, complete an on-line trauma training, and attend a 2 hour

Healing Garden Volunteer – Garden Volunteers can come in on a weekly basis or for one time corporate or group events. You would do basic gardening tasks such as watering and weeding. We will provide equipment but you are welcome to bring our

Development Committee – This committee meets on the second Wednesday of every month at various restaurants for happy hour and discusses different fundraising opportunities, event opportunities, as well as various ways to raise awareness and funds.

Music Committee – This committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month for happy hour to plan our annual “Austin Originals Benefit Concert.” We contact local businesses for sponsorships and donations as well as plan the actual event. These meetings take place at various restaurants from our previous and current food sponsors for the event.
