Fig Leaf, Open Door

Fig Leaf Donations & Open Door Updates

download

Fig Leaf is now accepting donations again of your gently used clothes, shoes, and other clothing items again. The donation bin has returned to its old location beside the elevator at the north entrance.

On Saturday, July 19th, Open Door provided sack lunches to 216 guests and Fig Leaf assisted 96 guests. Assisting UUMC and community volunteers were members of Manchaca UMC and the UUMC Odyssey Class.

Looking for a volunteer opportunity for your family this summer? Or, maybe you just want to try something new?The Fig Leaf store is opening soon and we have been blessed with a ton of clothes that have been piling up while we were closed. Sorters are needed to get ready for our Thursday and Saturday guests to shop. On Thursdays, we are open to the street youth – youth who are dependent on the streets in the university area. On Saturdays we are open to all who have a need for a good brunch and a shop in the Fig Leaf.
Other volunteers are also needed to work in the stores assisting our guests and helping keep the stores neat and functional.Sorting Times Currently ScheduledThursday 1:30 – 4:00
Saturday 8:00 – 10:30We can also set other times to suit your schedule. Please contact Jane Leifeste at leifeste.jane@gmail.com
Thank you to all who help make Open Doors and Fig Leaf a success! Open Door’s handbook and news updates are now available on the church website.

  1. I am curious when will the restrooms be operable. Will they be operable when Marcus Borg gets here. I also get on First United Methodist in Austin, Facebook and they are painting part of their building and they keep their members informed. Thanks, M Riley

    • Hi Mary,

We do apologize for the chaos of construction. We’re not exactly sure when everything will be finished but we are definitely hoping it will be done by the time Marcus Borg arrives. We’re working to do a better job of communicating in the meantime!
