Micah 6 Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Submitted by: Jane Leifestem6

Volunteers needed for Micah 6 Street Youth Ministry which serves youth, ages 30 and down, who are dependent on the streets in the University area.  We are in need of volunteers for the Sunday Drop-In and the Cold Weather Shelter.  Both take place at University Baptist, 2107 San Antonio.

  • The Drop-In is currently looking for hosts to help with set up and close and to generally help the center run smoothly.  The center is open from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm every Sunday.  Volunteers are needed from 1:30 – 6:30.  You could choose to work a half shift or to work the entire time.  You may choose to work once a month or more often.
  • The Cold Weather Shelter is open whenever the temperature gets below 32.  We need help with set up and close; hosting; overnight.  We need one man and one woman for over-night and pay $100 each per night for that job.
  • Micah 6 provides a hot meal on Sunday evenings at the Youth Drop-In Center at University Baptist Church. They are looking for folks at UUMC to help prepare a meal quarterly. If you and/or your Sunday School class is interested in providing a meal please contact Sue at  Food needs to be delivered at 4pm and 3 people are needed to stay to serve the meal which is usually over by 5:30 or 6pm.  People dropping off food only might consider using a disposable container so they don’t have to worry about returning pans, etc.  What a great way for a Sunday School to  make a profound impact with the youth who roam our streets.  Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

Please contact Mac McKaskle at if you are interested in helping with either the Drop-In or the Shelter.

You are also welcome to contact Jane Leifeste, UUMC member at 512-968-4003; with general questions about the program.
