“Austin community leaders will address educational, social, and economic opportunities for young minority males during a forum titled, “Trayvon Martin:  Is Justice Blind?” The forum is scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Huston-Tillotson University’s King Seabrook Chapel, located at 900 Chicon Street.

Nelson Linder, President, Austin Branch NAACP; Gary Cobb, Assistant District Attorney, Travis County District Attorney Office; Art Acevedo, Chief of Police, Austin; Asante Todd, Professor, Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary; and Vicki Spriggs, Chief Executive Officer, Texas CASA, will address the issues mentioned.

The community is invited to attend this forum, sponsored by Huston-Tillotson University in the aftermath of the verdict in the Trayvon Martin case.  The not guilty verdict for the shooting of an unarmed black teen placed racial profiling and gun rights into the national spotlight.

HT President and CEO, Larry L. Earvin, Ph.D., emphasized that as a higher education institution located in East Austin where many young men, as well as many of our students look like Trayvon Martin, Huston-Tillotson has the obligation to foster informed dialogue on this important issue.
